In an interview with Joe Kellz says the competition has been done as a platform of exposing up and coming artists to the music world.
“A lot of artists have been approaching me to sing with them when I collaborated on a mash up with Namadingo, but it was so difficult for me to sing with them all, this is why I came up the singing competition. As per my target, am targeting up and coming artists.
“I realized that there is a lot of talent in Malawi that only lacks exposure. Am a living testimony. From the experience that I have, I thought of not messing the time I have right now but to use this same space as a fan base in a way of exposing new talents in Malawi,” Joe Kellz.
Joe Kellz said the competition is very important not only to the artists joining but to the music industry.
“I feel like this is going to be very important to all artists as they will learn different kinds of skills from the artists who have already made names and upcoming artists too. This will lead artists to gain exposure adding a number of followers for themselves.
“I can’t say I have such a huge following that big artist but I have a good number of followers compared to the artists joining the competition. Am very sure that the winner will be given a stepping stone to his music career,” he said.
The competition is not limiting artists’ participation but it is a room for everyone to take part even though there will be only one winner.
“I know people might think there will be some grand prizes, I have to be open, there is none for now all I want it’s for all artists to sing a song with Joe Kellz,” Joe Kellz said.
Currently, for the first phase which is only for rappers, 52 up and coming artists have registered.
For one to cross the threshold in the competition, an artist is required to download the song from the link that will be shared on Joe Kellz media platforms.
All of the winning songs will be premiered on one of the country’s mesmerizing shows Born and Bred.
