Lilongwe, Malawi (MaraviPost): Malawi Minister Of Information, Tourism & Culture has released a statement categorically refuting Media reports that the State President His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has intentions to appoint a Second Vice President of the Republic.
The Statement also said it is not true that His Excellency the President intends to reshuffle his cabinet with the intention of creating space for the inclusion of a Second Vice President, or additional members which would make the size of cabinet to exceed the number of 20 which he promised the people of Malawi.
His Excellency the President does not see the need for appointing a Second Vice President nor does he see the reason for increasing the size of the cabinet. It is worth mentioning that the decision to reduce the size of the cabinet is in the spirit of the reforms which His Excellency the President is championing to make sure that service delivery is improved and waste of public resources is stopped.
According to the Media reports that are now proving to be incorrect the slot for Vice President was going to be created for Young Atupele Muluzi who is currently serving as a Minister in the Mutharika Government.
Atupele Muluzi by serving as cabinet Member while being leader of a different party mainly UDF has caused tension with senior members of his party who claim he has allowed his party to be integrated within the DPP.
A report by The Maravi Post which now appears to have been false indicated that it was Bakili Muluzi father to Atupele, Former President of Malawi who was manipulating President Peter Mutharika so that his son would eventually become President.
Accordingly, Government wishes to appeal to individuals and institutions, including the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) which is the latest organisation to be associated with these rumours, to desist from making decisions or taking positions based on speculation.
Suffice it to say, His Excellency the President remains committed and unflinchingly determined to avoid making decisions that have nothing beneficial to the people of Malawi.
