Malawi police arrest 40 in Lilongwe’s botched anti-judiciary protests

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-About 40 people are in police custody for insisting to continue holding anti-judiciary protests in the capital, Lilongwe despite a court injunction restraining them.

Lilongwe Police spokesperson, Hastings Chigalu has confirmed the development on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 afternoon.

Chigalu disclosed that the suspects have charged the suspects with contempt of court and unlawful assembly.

Lilongwe protests stopped

Some of the notable faces arrested including Kingsley Mpaso, Phunziro Mvula, Billy Banda, Jonathan Phiri, Victor Nyenyeliwa, Harale Aubrey, Edward Kambenje and Chimwemwe Mphepo.

Meanwhile, Chigalu has dismissed reports that a police officer has been killed during the protests.
