Malawi Police in Lilongwe have arrested five people for their alleged involvement in a series of robberies in the administrative capital.
The law enforcers have also recovered a short gun and other valuables.
The suspects, according to Lilongwe Police Publicist, Joseph Kachikho, were arrested during a raid in Area 25 township last Sunday.
The suspects have been identified as Samson Kuyewawa, Davie Kasiya, Howard Harry, Witness Usseni and Wycliff Makungwa.
Kachikho explained that in January this year, the suspects stole a short gun, two laptops and two cell phones from a public officer in the city.
“The suspects, in April this year, attacked another person in Chikaola village Traditional Authority Chitukula and stole shortgun Boito, K595, 000 cash, phones and a laptop.
“Following Police investigations, some of items were recovered from the suspects after their arrests,” said Kachikho.
Other items that have been recovered include two plasma screens, one laptop, two speakers, two amplifiers, six plastic chairs, assorted traveling bags and a bicycle.
He said the suspects will appear in court soon to answer a charge of robbery.
