By Tionge Hara

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Police on Friday morning, April, 2020 fired teargas at Prison warders at Mzuzu Prison who have been staging a strike, demanding promotions among others.

The Prison officers have since threatened that they will hit back.

Similarly, Police officers also fired teargas the group of people who went to see their fights.

The warders say they will retaliate because the Police officers are trespassing.

The striking junior prisoner warders are asking government to consider them with the risk allowance like other law enforcers,Malawi Defence Force (MDF), Malawi police and Immigration department.

The warders say are not happy with the development since they stay in side with more than 1000 prisoners which is very risky to them.

Mean while, people coming to give food to their relatives are not allowed entry.

Police officers coming to get prisoners to court are also not allowed.
