
BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—President Lazarus Chakwera has appointed board of directors for the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) and the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) respectively, according to a statement released by Chief Secretary to the government Zangazanga Chikhosi Tuesday.
The statement announced the appointment of Radson Mwadiwa, Justice Elton Singini, Nimia Kambili Mzembe, Mirriam Wemba and Dr. Maxwell Mkwezalamba to RBM board.
Deputy Governors of the Reserve Bank and The Secretary to Treasury are also in the RBM Governor headed board.
The statement also says President Chakwera has appointed NICO Holdings Plc CEO Vizenge Kumwenda, Lincon Bailey, Dharles Thokozani Kuyokwa, Henry Harris Chowawa to the MRA board.
“The appointments are with immediate effect,” reads the statement.
Commenting on the matter, economic expert Dr. Betchani Tchereni, a lecturer at the Polytechnic, has praised Chakwera for appointing the board members based on merit.
“If you see look at the list, the appointed members are professionals with vast experience. It is also gender sensitive as women have also been incorporated. I think on this one the president deserves applause,” said Betchani.
However, Betchani has asked the Tonse Alliance administration to consider advertising positions for directors and other top positions so that people should compete.
Since his election as President, Chakwera has made several changes in government departments, including the Police.
