Justice Andrew Nyirenda, who okayed Madonna’s controversial adoption of her first Malawian adoptive child David Banda in May 2008, has been appointed the southern African country’s Chief Justice by Malawi President Peter Mutharika.
Honourable Justice Andrew K.C. Nyirenda, a no-nonsense judge, replaces Malawi’s first female Chief Justice Anastasia Msosa who has retired.
Honourable Justice Andrew K.C. Nyirenda thrashed activists who opposed US pop diva’s adoption of David Banda, an orphan she found in an orphanage in the Western border district of Mchinji.
The appointment is subject to confirmation by the National Assembly.
