LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi-Scotland Partnership has emphasised the need to strengthen mentorship programmes in schools for Malawi to have a generation of learners with resilient skills to challenges for a productive nation.
Malawi Scotland Partnership Acting Chief Executive Officer Linda Dembo observes that mentorship programs are the recipe to a focused and responsible generation.
Dembo was speaking after mentorship programme at Adziwa Christian School at Kauma on Thursday, July 4, 2024 in Lilongwe.
“Malawi has experienced many shocks like cyclones, food shortage and outbreaks which have affected many girls in the country, the mentorship programme therefore seeks to encourage the youths to stay in school, focus and have a vision.
“We are hoping that other organizations emulate this so that we can reach out to more students especially in the rural areas,” she said.
She has added that currently they are targeting both boys and girls in order to give both genders an opportunity and leave no one behind.
“We are targeting six schools in across the country as a pilot phase. We have done two schools in the south, now one with another one remaining in central region then will finish with the north.
“We are therefore appealing to more partners with material and financial support towards the implementation of the program to reach many learners,” appeals Dembo.
One of the learners Hellen Kamanga lauded Malawi Scotland Partnership’s initiative saying, “I will remain focused on my dreams to become a doctor one day”.
During the mentorship session, learners were inspired on achieving life dreams, how to overcome challenges in meeting goals and among others.
Malawi Scotland Partnership is also reaching out to Malawian students through its science project to encourage youths in STEM subjects.
