Fourteen senior golfers from Malawi are gearing up to represent their country in the Inter-Country Golf Tournament, which will take place in Harare, Zimbabwe, this Saturday.

The team, led by captain Eric Chinkanda, is comprised of some of the country’s most skilled golfers, including Hutch Mthinda, Keta Mulwafu, Kanjeza Kamwendo, and Nyakhoko Nsona, among others.

The tournament, which will run from June 1 to 4, is expected to be a thrilling competition, with 93 senior golfers from Malawi and Zimbabwe vying for the coveted Austen Putter. According to Chinkanda, the objective of the tournament is to foster relationships and encourage senior golfers to remain active in the sport, while also serving as mentors to new golfers.

The Senior Golfers Society of Malawi (SGSoMw) has received sanction from the National Council of Sports and the Golf Union of Malawi (GUoM) to participate in the tournament. Chinkanda expressed gratitude to the sponsors who have supported the team, including NICO Group of Companies, which contributed K4 million, and Old Mutual Limited, which provided material support.

Other cash donations were also made by individuals, and the team appreciates the support from First Capital Bank (FCB) for handling their travel allowance request.

Chinkanda says the society is excited to participate in the tournament and is looking forward to a competitive and enjoyable experience.

The Malawi team is expected to face stiff competition from their Zimbabwean counterparts, but with their skills and experience, they are confident of making a strong impression. The tournament promises to be an exciting event, with golf enthusiasts eagerly anticipating the performances of the senior golfers from both countries.

As the team departs for Zimbabwe, they carry with them the hopes and expectations of Malawian golf fans.

With their talent, dedication, and support from sponsors, the Malawi senior golfers are set to shine in the tournament and bring pride to their country.
