LILONGWE (MaraviPost) – A Malawian woman, aged 66, has been killed for allegedly pestering her debtor to pay a K300 debt she owed her, police have confirmed.
Ntcheu District Police publicist Gift Matewere identified the victim as Emily Gladson of Kaumphawi Village, Traditional Authority Nsamala in Balaka.
According to Matewere, the suspect, James Minama, 35, has since been locked up.
“He will be charged with murder,” he said. “The suspect owed the deceased K300 (about US$ 0.75) which Gladson wanted back.”
The police said Minama invited Gladson to his home Monday when the latter had asked him about her money. But when she got there, the deceased was stabbed three times by a knife on the chest.
Gladson was pronounced dead upon arrival at Balaka District Hospital, police disclosed.
The suspect hails from M’gwawu Village, Traditional Authority Phambala in Ntcheu.
