Malawian man arrested for raping three women in a row

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Rape is increasingly becoming the order of the day in Malawi as Police in Dowa have arrested a 34-year-old man, Stephano Kaboko Chipiku for allegedly raping three women, one after another, aged 17, 24 and 32.

Dowa Police Spokesperson Sub-inspector Gladson M’bumpha has told local media today Tuesday that “the three went to fetch wild fruits (Masuku), in Kongwe Forest Reserve and whilst there they met Chipiku who was armed with a machete.”

The man then raped the women one after another.

The victims are currently being treated at Dowa District Hospital.

The suspect comes from Kambome Village in the area of Traditional Authority Msakambewa in Dowa.

The incident comes few days after an old man in Mzuzu raped a 10-year-old girl.

Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, Patricia Kaliati, expressed worry over the increase in rape cases when she visited the young girl who is hospitalized in Mzuzu.

“It is so heartbreaking that these cases are on the rise. I visited Mzuzu regional police where I have been briefed on how they together with the court’s are doing mobile court sessions in the villages to try and make people understand how serious rape crimes are. I would like to congratulate them for such a good initiative, and urge them to continue doing such a commendable job,” she said.

Malawi is experiencing a wave of rape cases and recently a man was caught bonking a chicken.
