Malawian man behind bars for stabbing wife’s secret lover to death

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Police  in Ntcheu are keeping in custody a 44 year-old man for allegedly stabbing to death his wife’s secret lover.

Ntcheu police spokesperson, Sub Inspector Hastings Chigalu said the suspect, Gabriel Yonas, spends much of his time in Blantyre where he works for a cleaning services company while his wife stays at Masunda 1 village, Sub Traditional Authority (STA) Tsikulamowa in Ntcheu.

“On July 24, the suspect left Blantyre for Ntcheu to visit his family. The suspect found it strange to find his wife with another man right in his own house at around 2100 hours. He resorted to stabbing Jason Dziko aged 42, on the chest with a knife, and fled the scene,” he said.

Chigalu said well-wishers rushed the deceased to Balaka District Hospital where he died while receiving medical attention.

Yonasi has been charged with murder which is contrary to section 209 of the Penal Code.

The deceased, Jason Dziko, hailed from Masunda 1 Village, STA Tsikulamowa in the district while the suspect hails from Msikita village, T/A Njema in Mulanje district.

The police biannual report is showing an increase in murder cases in Ntcheu with 16 cases registered from January to June this year compared to 11 registered in the same period in 2019.
