LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera, has called on citizens and in the country to support Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) for it to enhance its humanitarian response activities towards mankind.
The president made the remarks on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 during the inauguration of Malawi Red Cross 2020 flag week at kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe at which the president was inducted as patron of the organization.
Chakwera urged people not to only focus on paid work, but to support humanitarian work that benefits the vulnerable in the society.
“The focus should not only be on paid work but also voluntary work, I challenge all Malawians to support organizations with good causes that benefit the vulnerable”he said.
He the urged the corporate world to support the organization.
The Malawi leader boosted the Flag week which serves to mobilise resources with a K1 million donation.
Malawi Red Cross President Levison Changole thanked the president for accepting being the patron of the society.
On challanges the organization faces Changole bemoaned inadequate resources as a major challange and he appealled for more support from well wishers.
During the flag week Red Cross receives donations that are aimed at helping the vulnerable in society and the organization is hoping to raise 60 million this year to support their activities.
Red Cross is a humanitarian organization that focuses on alleviating human suffering during times of disasters, both man made and natural disasters across the world.
