Malawi’s Chitipa road accident

CHITIPA-(MaraviPost)-Twelve people have been injured in a road accident in which a bus plunged after its driver failed to negotiate a bend at Ilanda in Chitipa in the wee hours of today.

According to Spokesperson for Chitipa Health Office, Masida Nyirongo, eleven of the injured passengers, including the driver of the bus, are currently receiving medical treatment at Chitipa District Hospital while one casualty has been referred to Mzuzu Central Hospital for being severely injured in the spine.

Public Relations Officer for Chitipa Police Station, Sub – Inspector Gladwell Simwaka asked for more time before commenting on the actual number of casualties in the accident, but he was quick to say that the condition of the road might also be one of the causes of the accident since rains have just started to fall in the district.

The bus, whose Registration Number is NA 5654, belongs to Captain Bus Tours.
