Malawi’s Dedza health workers at Maonde Health Centre down tools

DEDZA-(MaraviPost)-Health workers at Maonde Health Centre in Dedza have for the past three days put their tools down after one of their own was denied access to a borehole by members of the community.

According to a source privy to the facility, there is a water problem at the facility; as such one of the workers decided to draw water from a nearby borehole where community members also do.

Whilst at the borehole, the health worker was denied to draw the precious resource by one of the women who were also there for the same resource.

It is, therefore, presumed that this officer narrated the omen to the rest of the staff members who, in turn, resorted to boycott services as one way of paying back to the community.

At the moment, community members are going to Lobi Health Centre, which is much far away from their locality.

Spokesperson for Dedza Health Office, Mwayi Liabunya, has confirmed the receipt of the situation and has indicated that the office will ask some members to go and act on the development at Maonde.

Statistics indicates that Maonde Health Centre serves about ten thousand members around the catchment area.
