ATLANTA, MaraviPost: Malawi’s embattled Vice President Saulos Chilima will tonight address the nation according to Zodiak radio station which has shown favorable coverage to saulos Chilima in the past.
What is not known at the moment If this is a sanctioned event by the Malawi Government or a UTM event to promote his Presidency in the upcoming Malawi Elections.
General elections were held in Malawi on 21 May 2019 to elect the President, National Assembly, and local government councilors. Incumbent President Peter Mutharika of the Democratic Progressive Party was re-elected, with his party remaining the largest in the National Assembly. However, on 3 February 2020, the Constitutional Court annulled the presidential election results following court petitions by Saulos Chilima who had run against Peter Mutharika the president as a sitting vice President and Malawi Congress Party leader reverend Lazarus Chakwera.
The President of Malawi is elected using the first-past-the-post system; the candidate that receives the most votes is the winner of the election. The 193 members of the National Assembly are also elected by first-past-the-post voting in single-member constituencies.
So, in this prevailing political environment The Nation awaits Chilima’s address wondering whether this is a government sanctioned address or that of an aspiring President betraying President Peter Mutharika his boss.
