NTCHISI-(MANA)- An eighteen-year-old man has killed his own wife aged 21 by stabbing her with a sharp knife in Ntchisi District.
Ntchisi Police Spokesperson, Yohane Tasowana who identified the suspect as Richard Nyongani, said the reason behind the gruesome murder is not yet known.
Nyongani is said to have fled after the incident and his whereabouts are not known.
According to Tasowana, the deceased, whom he identified as Mudatayika Antone from Chamayere Village in Traditional Authority Chikho’s area, met her fate on September 8, 2022 at Pondani Village in the district.
“The ordeal came to light when the sister to the suspect heard a baby crying continuously in the couple’s house which prompted her to check, only to find her sister in law lying in a pool of blood,” said Tasowana.
He said the deceased had a deep wound on her neck.
Postmortem results indicate that the death was due to severe loss of blood.
Police have since instituted investigations to arrest the suspect.
Meanwhile, Ntchisi District Gender Officer, Chikondi Macheso has described the murder as unfortunate.
“It is unfortunate that even after a number of awareness campaigns, including hosting a number of Gender Based Violence and Child Protection campaigns, we still have such cases with extreme effects as death in the area,” said Macheso.
She said her office, in conjunction with the District’s Gender Technical Working Group in and in liaison with the chiefs’ forum in the district, will strategise on how best they can address GBV issues in the district.
“This serves as a wakeup call for more action and engagement from our office (Gender Office),” said Macheso.
