LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi police at Kanengo police station are keeping in custody Steven Wingolo, a pastor at Saul Servers Church in Area 25 (Lilongwe) for having sex with a teenager,impregnating and help her in aborting the child.
Wingolo was in a sexual relationship with a form 3 girl (17years) who was also a member of praise team for his church from May 2019.
Esther Mkwanda Kanengo Police station spokesperson told The Maravi Post that In August 2019,the girl realized that she was pregnant and informed Wingolo who was responsible for her pregnancy.
Wingolo told her to go for abortion and gave her money for the act.
Mkwanda said that the abortion was not well conducted that led to the girl’s persistent poor health.
On Tuesday September 17, Wingolo took the girl to a mission hospital within Lilongwe where she was urgently attended to and later admitted without the knowledge of her parents, with the suspect sitting in as biological father to the Victim.
After two days of admission, the hospital staff became suspicious and tried to enquire with the girl’s school who later called the girl’s real parents.They rushed to the hospital and found Wingolo in the ward posing as a guardian to the girl.
The girl revealed that Wingolo was responsible for the pregnancy and the parents reported the matter to police who rushed to the hospital and arrested him.
He appeared before Nkukula first grade magistrate court today October 24,2019 where he has been remanded to Maula prison waiting for full trial.
Steven Wingolo (39)who hails from village Nchochoma,T/A Kamenyagwaza in Dedza is answering charges of Procuring abortion and having sexual activity with a child contrary to section 160(b).
