Tutelage Social Enterprise, a Malawian youth-owned startup company visited Mchengautuba Primary School in Mzuzu to inspire and present awards to outstanding and most improved standard eight female learners as they were closing for term one.
The school’s headmistress Mrs. Simwaka expressed a deep concern on continued school drop rate and poor performance especially amongst female learners.
“This initiative comes at the right time when there is high school dropout rate and poor performance amongst the girl, I hope that they will be inspired and motivated to work hard” she said.
Amongst other activities, the company organized an inspiration talk by Leticia Siyaya, a Renewable Energy and Technology student at Mzuzu University.
“Have a vision of what you would like to become, believe in yourself and work hard in class” she challenged the learners.
On her part, the most outstanding female learner, Elizabeth Chunga who inspires to become a Bank Manager, was thankful for being recognized,“I am grateful because of the prizes that I have received, it is motivation for me to work extra hard as I prepare for the coming Primary School Leaving Certificate examinations”.
Tutelage Social Enterprise uses part of the profits they realize from their multiple small scale businesses to do volunteer charity work as a way of giving back to the Malawian community that helped to raise and educate the company owners.
