WaterAid for collaboration in Coronavirus response in Malawi

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-WaterAid in Malawi has lived by its one of its values that emphasises on collaboration to maximum results by handing over various supplies to Lilongwe City Council which will help in preventing the spread of Corona virus (Covid-19).

Although no case has been detected in Malawi yet, several stakeholders have quickly responded by increasing preventive measures.

The disease has affected several countries in the world including neighbouring countries such as Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Zambia.

In a press release issued on Friday after handing over the supplies, WaterAid in Malawi Country Director Mercy Masoo said that the organization believes in collaboration to achieve maximum results.

“We have handed over some supplies to Lilongwe City Council because we recognise the council’s role in promoting sanitation and hygiene. The materials we have supplied will help them do their work and promote the preventive measures that have been put in placetowards the fight against the pandemic in the city,” she said.

City of Lilongwe Mayor Juliana Kaduya lauded WaterAid in Malawi for providing the supplies.

“I have put on a mask that is why you cannot see my smile but I am very happy right now that WaterAid has made this timely intervention. Our work is made easy because of the support that we receive. We will do our best to prevent the spread of Coronavirus,” she said.

Apart from providing the supplies to the council, WaterAid in Malawi will provide essential supplies in the areas they work.

Among other projects, WaterAid in Malawi is well known for its remarkable interventions in health care facilities to improve water, sanitation and hygiene.

Covid-19 is spread through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

The common symptoms include high fever, tiredness and dry cough.

To prevent infection and to slow transmission of Covid-19, WaterAid encourages everyone to wash hands regularly with soap and clean water, or clean the hands with alcohol-based hand rub;maintain at least 1 metre distance between you and the next person (especially in closed spaces); avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth; when coughing or sneezing use the inside elbow to prevent droplets from spreading.
