BLANTYRE (MaraviPost) – Creative writer and online journalist Pius Nyondo has been hired as editor of The Maravi Post, Eltas Enterprises – the online paper’s publisher – have announced.

Nyondo, who holds several certificates in news writing and reporting and is currently upping his studies in languages and literature at Mzuzu University (Mzuni), replaces US based Patrick Mwanza – The Maravi Post founding editor – who stepped down about two years ago.

The Maravi Post’s publisher Elwin Mandowa said “while Pius [Nyondo] may not have enough experience as editor, I’m confident that with the assistance of our team and his background as someone who has a great passion for writing and journalism, he will flourish in this position.”

Nyondo is with effect from July 1, 2014 heading a team of dedicated journalists behind the newspaper including veterans Raphael Tenthani and Felix Mponda.

Winner of the 2012 First Merchant Bank Short Story Award – Malawi’s most prestigious award for short fiction, Nyondo has published widely with Nation Publications Limited (NPL), Blantyre Newspapers Limited (BNL) and Montfort Media. He has also worked for Malawi24 and Nyasa Times as Editor and Special Projects and Supplements Editor respectively.
