Malawians have been urged to strengthen the bonds of unity that has for a long time existed between people of different faiths and religions especially Muslims and Christians.
Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Vice President Muhammed Sidik Mia made the call in Balaka when he received into the party Balaka North Independent Member of Parliament (MP), Anthony Ngalande alongside other new members including the former People Party (PP) Machinga South East legislator Wilson Ndomondo.
Mia urged the people of Balaka and the nation at large, never to give room to people who bring in religious conflict inoder to devide Christians and Moslems for their political agendas.
The MCP second in command assured that Malawi’s President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has a strong will to promote religious peaceful co-existence.
Mia cited Chakwera’s choice of runningmate ahead of 2019 presidential election as a towering example of Chakwera’s strong will to promote religious co-existence, when he as as a Christian leader chose him (Mia) who is a Muslim to become his deputy.
He emphasized that this was a great demonstration of the President’s love for Moslems and an indication that he was ready to work with Moslems in the country.
In his remarks after he was received into MCP, Ngalande pledged to work hard in supporting the President’s development agenda which he described as “visionary”.
Among the new members that joined MCP was Michael Sauka Junior, a ward councilor who is son of the late Malawi’s hero Michael Sauka the composer of our national anthem.
