Minister of Trade Vitumbiko Mumba has clarified that his ministry has not revoked the prohibition order imposed on certain goods, which will remain in effect for two years. The minister emphasized that maize and bananas are not among the prohibited imports, providing relief to traders and farmers who deal in these commodities.

The clarification comes amid concerns and confusion among businesspeople and the general public regarding the prohibition order. Minister Mumba’s statement aims to provide clarity and reassurance, ensuring that stakeholders understand the scope and duration of the restrictions.

In a separate matter, Minister Mumba distanced his ministry from a fraudulent letter that circulated on social media, alleging that the ministry was assisting individuals in processing visas and passports to travel to the USA. The minister confirmed that the individual behind the fake letter has been arrested, highlighting the government’s commitment to combating fraud and protecting citizens from scams.

“We want to assure the public that our ministry is not involved in any such activities, and we urge people to be cautious of fraudulent schemes,” Minister Mumba said. “We are working with relevant authorities to ensure that those responsible for such scams are brought to justice.”

The minister’s statement aims to restore public trust and confidence in his ministry, emphasizing the importance of verifying information through official channels before acting on it. By clarifying the prohibition order and denouncing the visa scam, Minister Mumba demonstrates his commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.

The public is advised to rely on official sources of information and to report any suspicious activities or documents to the relevant authorities. As the ministry continues to work towards promoting trade and commerce in Malawi, it is essential for stakeholders to have accurate and reliable information to make informed decisions.
