LILONGWE – MARAVIPOST: The Media Institute of Southern Africa Malawi Chapter has strengthened its National Governing Council with the co-option of Feston Malekezo of Times Group to represent the northern region, the chapter announced on Wednesday.
Malekezo’s appointment was confirmed during a virtual NGC meeting held on 13 May 2026. He joins the council as an Executive Member under Article VI: 6.3 of the MISA Malawi Constitution, which mandates regional representation on the council and allows the NGC to co-opt a member if no candidate from a region is elected at the Annual General Meeting.
The Times Group Bureau Chief in Mzuzu also chairs the Nyika Media Club, a network of journalists and communication professionals from northern Malawi. According to MISA Malawi, council members cited his standing in the media fraternity and the trust he enjoys among journalists in the north as key reasons for his selection.
Alongside Malekezo, the NGC retained Lilian Khofi for financial oversight and Chikondi Kasambara for legal expertise. Both were re-appointed for a fresh term in recognition of their work during the 2023-2026 tenure.
They join the newly elected leadership comprising Felix Washon as Chairperson, Nathan Majawa as Vice Chairperson, and Dorothy Kachitsa as Executive Member.
Chairperson Felix Washon said the new appointments ensure the council reflects Malawi’s three regions and brings in diverse professional expertise to guide the chapter’s work on media freedom, safety of journalists, and media development.
MISA Malawi said it expects the expanded council to advance its mandate of defending press freedom and supporting ethical journalism across the country.
