Leading pay television provider MultiChoice Malawi has trained teachers at Kasasa private School in Dwangwa on how to use the DStv education Bouquet which has been installed at the school.
Parents and guardians at the school carried out various fundraising activities in order to purchase the DStv High Definition PVR decoder and MultiChoice has offered free subscription to the DStv Education bouquet content.
Speaking at the function, Dorah Mkochi, MultiChoice Malawi representative said that the education programmes bring to life and give a powerful visual idea of the topics that are taught in class.
“Since we started offering the DStv Education bouquet service in public secondary schools in the country, there has been an increase in pass rate at both Junior Certificate of Education examination (JCE) and Malawi School Certificate of Education examinations (MSCE),” Mkochi said.
According to Mkochi, the bouquet comprises of nine premium channels which include BBC world, BBC Knowledge, Animal planet, History channel and Mindset Learn among other channels.
Mkochi also said that MultiChoice is replacing the VCR decoders in schools which were the first to benefit from the programme.
“We have embarked on a programme to replace the VCR decoders with PVR decoders because the new decoders offers quality of pictures and more space for recording the programmes compared to the old one,” she said
In his speech, the Head teacher at the school, Chris Luhanga, said that the installation of the service is expected to boost performance at the school.
“We expect our pupils to do better in the Cambridge Examinations which they take at the end of the year because pictures are more memorable to learners than notes,’’ Said Luhanga.
Pupils at the school were extremely excited that they will be able to learn with the help of audio visual instruments.
“I am very happy. Now we will be able to learn things faster. In addition to that we will be able to follow international current affairs,” said Felix Mhango, head boy at the school.
Kasasa Private School becomes the first private school to access the services in the central region.
