Malawi President Peter Mutharika has returned the PAC Report on MEC Commissioners as a hastily submitted report which was not fully debated in parliament.
According to our sources the President said Speaker Catherine Gotani Hara sent it to H.E without Parliament debating and adopting it as per procedure. President Mutharika has asked the Speaker to produce evidence that the report was presented and passed by the Full House.
DPP members are very distrustful of Catherine Gotani Hara who has run Parliament in a very partisan manner.
During the Inquiry by PAC Justice Jane Mayemu Ansah, S.C. summed up the ConCourt Case in two paragraphs as she confounded the Public Appointments Committee (PAC) members with her knowledge of election laws in Malawi.
“Electoral laws were not breached because of the use of the correctional fluid. Rather the electoral laws were upheld because corrections were made after detecting human errors at poling centers”.
Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Jane Ansah SC also told the Public Appointments Committee of Parliament that all decisions made during and after the elections were made by the entire Commission and that there was no single moment that she made a personal decision regarding the management of the May 21 2019 tripartite elections.
