MZUZU (Maravi Post)—Big as well sad news out of Mzuzu city in Malawi’s northern region at this hour is that the mighty Mzuzu University Library is as we write on heavy fire. All the books have been razed down by the fire, everything, computers, what have you have been destroyed.
It’s absolutely a mourning period for the students who are supposed to finish their end of semester exams today.
As we write, the Vice Chancellor for the University Dr Robert Ridley is currently on the scene literally weeping seeing the library into ashes.
The confused students just a few minutes ago literally chased the fire brigade who came very late to rescue the situation.
This is absolutely a heavy loss to the nation considering the fact that books in our University Libraries are already in short supply and to see the whole library razed down is unimaginable. This is unprecedented in the history of Malawi Library’s.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
