POLOKWANE-(MaraviPost)-The Brave Gladiators of Namibia have been crowned champions of the 2025 COSAFA Women’s Championship after a thrilling and hard fought campaign.
Namibia sealed the title with a dramatic 2-1 victory after extra time over South Africa.
The game which played on Sunday in South Africa at Peter Mokabs stadium in Polokwa city.
South Africa had taken the lead through Nthabiseng Majiya, putting early pressure on the Brave Gladiators in a tense final showdown.
However, Namibia responded with determination as Muhinatjo Hanavi found the equaliser, shifting momentum and restoring belief among her teammates.
With the score locked at 1-1 after regulation time, the match headed into extra time, where nerves, fitness and mental strength were put to the ultimate test.
It was Memory Ngonda who rose to the occasion, scoring the decisive goal that handed Namibia a historic 2-1 advantage.
Despite late pressure from South Africa, Namibia defended bravely until the final whistle, confirming their status as COSAFA 2025 champions.
Meanwhile, Zambia secured third place after defeating Zimbabwe 3-1 in the playoff match.
Agness Phiri was the star of the encounter, netting twice to give Zambia a strong foundation in the third place clash.
Mercy Chipasula added another goal to seal Zambia’s dominance, while Rutendo Makore scored Zimbabwe’s consolation in a spirited performance.
The third place finish highlights Zambia’s continued strength in the region, as they once again proved to be one of Southern Africa’s most competitive sides.
As Namibia celebrates a historic championship triumph and Zambia claims bronze, the 2025 COSAFA Women’s Championship will be remembered as a tournament full of passion, drama, and rising stars in African women’s football.
