NCIC decorates Chakwera with quality infrastructure promotion award

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s construction watchdog National Construction Industry Council (NCIC) on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 President Lazarus Chakwera as a Champion of Quality Infrastructure due to his unwavering support to the professionalism and transparency to the construction sector.

Speaking during Malawi’s first-ever National Construction Day at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, NCIC Board Chairperson Jeremiah Mugaba praised the Malawi leader for his zeal in promoting capacity building among local contractors.

The institution also hailed Chakwera for supporting the review of the NCIC Act, which was recently passed in the just ended Parliament.

As a token of appreciation to the President, Mugaba presented a gift and the honorary title on behalf of the construction industry in Malawi.

In his speech, the Malawi leader said his administration has completed over 600 development projects country-wide since he took over the baton of power in the year 2020.

Chakwera said his government will soon come up with a list of all development projects that it has completed so far to counter baseless accusations from some quarters of the society who are propagating lies that his administration has done nothing for Malawians.

The Malawi leader added that there is nothing wrong in completing development projects that were started by previous regimes saying running a government is like a relay race.

Chakwera therfore disclosed that his vision is to ensure construction of durable infrastructure that lasts a long time for the benefit of Malawians today and the future generations.

The National Construction Day event has been organized by NCIC under the theme: “Quality Driven Construction Industry: Building for Generations.”

The day is aimed at providing a platform to promote quality infrastructure, ethical conduct, integrity, partnerships, safety, sustainability, agility, and innovation in construction.

The event will encourage industry-wide reflection and appreciation for the resilience and dedication of all players involved.
