KADUNA STATE-(MaraviPost)-Nigerian Police has nubbed one atheist, Mubarak Bala, for insulting Prophet Muhammad in a Facebook post.
Police Public Relations Officer in Kaduna State, Mohammed Jalige confirmed of the arrest.
Jalige however refused to give details of the offense that Bala committed which led to his arrest.
A report by Punch news revealed that Bala was arrested on Wednesday, 29 April 2020 following a petition that was signed by nearly 16,942 people presented by a group of lawyers to the Commissioner of Police in Kano State to prosecute him for his “inciting comments”.
Bala joined atheism in 2014 and has been reportedly writing provocative statements on his Facebook to both christians and Muslims.
In his recent post that has led to his arrest Bala posted, “Fact is, you have no life after this one. You have been dead before, long before you were born, billions of years on death” on monday 27 April,2020.
Other reports revealed that in 2014, Bala was forcefully committed to a psychiatric hospital in Kano by his family but he was later discharged from the psychiatric hospital after he was declared sane.
Meanwhile, he is expected to be prosecuted for blasphemy, a crime which contravenes the Sharia Penal Code.
