Opposition leader Chithyola in trouble over FISP fertilizers possession

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Opposition leader Simplex Chithyola Banda is trouble over Farm Input Subsidy Programme (FISP) fertilizers possession at his farm.

Eventually, Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court in Lilongwe on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 temporarily stopped the State from executing a search warrant against Namuleri Farms Limited in Kasungu.

The farm belongs to the former Finance Minister Chithyola Banda.

Chithyola runs to court

This means authorities cannot carry out the planned search until the court hears the company’s challenge against it.

The search warrant was obtained by the State on Monday, December 15.

Chithyola’s awyer George Jivason Kadzipatike told Nationonline earlier in the day that “Yes, I have indeed obtained a stay and I am on my way to Area 30 police to serve them.”

Kadzipatike disclosed that the State was claiming that the fertiliser at the farm belongs to the government but did not provide batch numbers or serial numbers.

Meanwhile, the court has set Thursday this week for an inter partes hearing, during which both sides are expected to present their arguments.

According to sources, Chithyola and other former President Lazarus Chakwera regime’s cabinet ministers obtained fertiliser from NEEF meant for low income-earners.
