LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-As the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) region 5 Youth Games Lilongwe 2022 continue, the Region 5 chairman who is also the Region’s Organizing Committee Chief Executive Officer, Stanley Mutoya has showed satisfaction on how the games are being patronized.
Speaking to the press on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at Bingu National Stadium, Mutoya said as a region they are inspired with how the games being played are patronized in all venues and Sports codes.
“From the day we started the tournament with Teakwondo, Football,Basketball we have seen a number of features that have inspired us.
“Firstly the support from the general public, which is amazing as it is more valued by the region,” he said.
Mutoya excited, “It is not a secret that some of the facilities were not ready in time to host the games. There were a lot of doubts from everyone if Malawi could make it. But our overall impression is that we have seen contractors, government, LOC and everybody working tirelessly to make sure that the competition is not compromised.
“Every 6 o’clock in the morning we are meeting the CDM’s and they are happy with the accommodation, food they are eating and facilities they are using for training and games. Special mention to the technical team which has made sure the games are always in time”.
He added the critical moment was when they came for the first time and categorize the whole thing into four phases which were:Does Malawi has capacity to host the games?,Can Malawi provide some support services?, Can Malawi provide Safety and secure games? And the last one was can Malawi host the memorable games?,which he said, they are all being achieved.
Meanwhile, e-Swatini are leading with the medal list won so far, they have 5 Gold medals,Lesotho 4 Gold medals,3 Silver medals,Angola 3 Gold,2 Silver medals,Mozambique have 1 Gold and 1 Silver medals, the host Malawi have 5 Silver,5 Bronze medals,Zimbabwe has 1 Silver,9 Bronze, Zambia 1 Silver,1 Bronze, South Africa 1 Bronze whilst Botswana failed to get any.
