RSA’s Zozibin Tunzi loses crown to Sasha Oliver over Miss Universe

PRETORIA-(MaraviPost)-South Africa has a new holder of the Miss SA crown after current holder, Zozibini Tunzi, had to relinquish the role following her win as Miss Universe last year (2019). The new Miss South Africa is Sasha Lee Oliver(26).

South Africans woke up to the news which was announced on the official Miss South Africa Twitter page.

“The moment you have all been waiting for is here! We are proud to announce that @MissSasha_Lee has been crowned as the new Miss South Africa 2019”, read the Tweet.

There was mixed reaction to the news and people seemed confused until it was clarified that the pageant rules do not allow for a person to hold two titles at the same time.

Since Zozibini Tunzi was crowned Miss Universe, it meant she had to resign from her Miss SA title and according to the rules, the 1st princess automatically becomes the new title holder.

In this case, Sasha Lee was the first princess, therefore, assumes the role.

Tweeps were however not entirely impressed by the news and some went even as low as body-shaming Sasha Lee, calling her “plus-size’ . One tweeter user even wrote:

” I don’t recognize sosha Lee. Zozi is and will remain our miss South. She can run this country from the towers of New York…”

Speaking to Chanel 24, Sasha lee admitted that she has big shoes to fill.

“I am so happy for Zozi”, she said. “I wish her every success. I step into big shoes. I just want Zozi to know that I will do my best to fill them”.

Zozi shared the love back and congratulated Sasha. “I can not think of anyone who is more suitable to be Miss South Africa. Sasha has it all: beauty, brains, and above all, a commitment to help others. I have no doubt that she will use her reign to help improve the life of those in need.”

  1. Why the body shaming? Zozi has bigger and better roles to fill. South Africans should give Sasha a chance. There’s no telling how well she will do.
