BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)–The ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), which was last year accused of sponsoring Reverend Alex Maulana ahead of Blantyre C.C.A.P Synod elections, is at it again, this time pumping millions of kwachas to oust Reverend Levi Nyondo as Livingstonia C.C.A.P Synod General Secretary.DPP is sponsoring Reverend Dr. Timothy Nyasulu to take over the leadership of the vibrant and vocal synod over Levi Nyondo.
According to our sources, the move is being orchestrated by former vice president Khumbo Kachali through whom DPP is channeling the money to Reverend Nyasulu.
” KK got K15 million from DPP and gave to the Rev. Nyasulu to buy some Reverends to support him and last week he was given another K20 million from KK from DPP,” the source said as quoted in the media.
“DPP is against Dr. Rev. Nyondo because of been the person defending the North,” added the source.
The synod has so far 200 reverends and all are eligible to vote plus section clerk from each praying station.
The source indicates that Nyasulu is a weak character and pro DPP.
Nyondo has been a fierce critic of DPP since the reign of BinguWaMutharika. In 2010 he was arrested after speaking at the funeral of former Cabinet minister Moses Chirambo, who died just days after being dismissed from the government.
At the funeral Nyondo had said it was ironic for the government to praise Chirambo after his death, when it had removed him from the Cabinet. Nyondo said that the government appeared to want the brother of President BinguwaMutharika to lead the country after 2014, but the church opposed this and would instead support Vice President Joyce Banda.
