BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Sheikh Amir Jaafar Kawinga, a well known Advocate for Gender Justice, has called on young people to take education seriously, describing it as a powerful tool that can transform their future and protect them from various forms of abuse.
Speaking during a youth engagement meeting organized by the Full Moon Organization, over the weekend Kawinga emphasized that education helps learners understand different life opportunities and equips them with knowledge to make informed decisions.
He particularly warned against early marriages among teenagers, saying such practices rob young people especially girls of their right to education and expose them to long term social and economic challenges.
Kawinga added that when young people stay in school longer, they are more likely to avoid harmful situations and instead build strong foundations for successful careers and responsible adulthood.
He also made a passionate appeal to different organizations and stakeholders to increase their support for youth development programs, saying collective effort is needed to help young people achieve their dreams.
The meeting brought together students and this year candidate from Standard 8, Form 2 and Form 4, who gathered to be motivated and guided on how to improve their academic performance and life choices.
According to Kawinga, empowering youth is not only about academic knowledge but also about ensuring they are protected from social vices that continue to affect many communities.
Full Moon Organization Chairman Hanif Abubadiria Daudi said the gathering was designed to inspire students from Machinjiri in Blantyre to work harder in school and aim for better results.
Daudi stressed that academic success does not come easily, adding that consistent effort, discipline and determination are key ingredients for passing examinations with strong grades.
He further highlighted that Full Moon Organization has been actively supporting young people by providing practical skills training in areas such as tailoring, catering, plumbing and electrical work.
Through these programs, many youths have gained hands on experience that enables them to either find employment or start their own small businesses, reducing dependency and unemployment in the community.
