LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-International Labour Organisation (ILO) has emphasized the need for the country’s authorities to invest more on social protection programs with long term implementation strategies.

“Social protection programs are investments for poverty alleviation among the poor hence a need for enough resources for its long term implementation that impact be greatly.

“Social protection programs must not be designed consumptive that local authorities be prepared for tangible exist strategies once donor communities pulls out in the future,” urges Kaluluma.

Echoing on the same, ILO’s implementation partner on social protection program, Outreach Scout Foundation’ Executive Director Amon Lukhele implored the media to embrace the initiative with more civil education.

Lukhule observed that there is gap in media reporting on social protection programs hence the orientation.

“We need more coverage on social protection program that authorities be embracing the initiative with proactive approach coupled with long term strategies.

“With much coverage in the media we expect resources to be channeled towards social protection programs while existing strategies are put in place once donor communities pull out as they contribute 90% of funds,” urges Lukhule.

International Labour Organisation subcontracted the Outreach Scout Foundation (OSF) to conduct a Media Orientation on social protection programmes in Malawi.
