…………Mighty Wanderers 0-1 Moyale Barracks

By Edwin Mbewe

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Lali Lubani outfits Mighty Wanderers dialed a wrong Airtel number at Kamuzu Stadium as they tried to reach out to the soldiers of Kaning’ina.

However the Mzuzu based Soldiers through their IT specialist Lice Corpol Lloyd Njaliwa quickly noticed that the civilians were planning to attack them hence came up with a well planned ambush to make sure they win the battle.

Moyale Barracks displayed exciting football from the first whistle as they kept pressing and attacking Wanderers through, Raphael Phiri, Lloyd Njaliwa Brown Magaga,Clifford Fukizi among others while the host team showed some brilliance through Vitumbiko Kumwenda,Yamikani Chester and Wisdom Mpinganjira but efforts from both teams to get a goal were futile as their goalkeepers Richard Chipuwa and McDonald Harawa were steady and denied the attackers’ efforts.

At half time it ended a goalless draw.Second half Moyale Barracks continued dominating the play and at 66th minute the usual suspect Lloyd Njaliwa scored for The Lions of Kaning’ina after Richard Chipuwa and his defenders failed to clear the ball.

That lone goal from Lloyd Njaliwa helped Moyale Barracks win first leg of the 2021 Airtel Top 8 against Mighty Wanderers. Alfred Chilinda, the center referee, blew the whistle to mark the end of the game, and yes Nomads dialled Airtel Wrong number which ended up telling them “The number you have dialled, doesn’t exist on the network, please contact customer care or try to dial it again”,.

Prichard Mwansa, Moyale Barracks Commander, said it was tough playing away against Wanderers but thanked God for the victory.

“A win today gives a morale to my boys to work hard in the return leg in Mzuzu,we will work hard at home to sail through to the next round”, said Mwansa

Moyale reigns Mzuzu derby in TNM Super League

Moyale on pitch

By Francisco Mwanza

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Moyale’s Lloyd Njaliwa’s 31st minute goal on Saturday, was enough to unpack the struggling Mzuzu Warriors outfit at Mzuzu stadium.

Although the game failed to produce that derby enthusiasm which used to be there when the two teams meet but for Moyale assistance coach Prichard Mwansa the two points collected meant a lot to them.

“We always find it tough when facing Warriors,l just thank my boys we have made it since what we needed is three points at the end of it all,” said Mwansa.

Adding that the blending of old and new blood in their squad has brought back the lost glory in their team no wonder they are unbeaten in four games played so far.

His counterpart, Gilbert Chirwa said his boys gave a lot of room for Moyale players to maneuver more especially in the first half hence the defeat.

“We lost a lot of balls in the midfield which made them to dominate in the first half and got punished in the process, although my boys came in the game but it didn’t materialise,” said Chirwa.

A loss for Warriors puts them at a very awkward position as they are still stack on the bottom of the log table having played 12 games and collected 8 points.

While the Kaning’ina soldiers climbs to position 9 with 18 points remaining with only 2 games to wind up the first round of the league.

Crispin Fukizi of Moyale Barracks was voted man of the match and went away with an old mutual miniature.

ln other games played on Saturday, Nyasa Big Bullets dislodged Civil sporting Club on second position following their 2-1 victory at Kamuzu stadium while Kamuzu Barracks beat Chitipa 1-0 at Nankhaka.

Big Bullets players

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Nyasa Big Bullets will miss the services of their talisman Hassan Kajoke and goalkeeper Ernest Kakhobwe as they take on Moyale Barracks this afternoon at the Kamuzu Stadium.

According to reports reaching Maravi Post sports desk, the two Big Bullets players and two officials namely James Chilapondwa and Chisomo Chikwembani, who are also team manager and welfare manager respectively, are in isolation after showing Covid19 symptoms.

“Two Nyasa Big Bullets players and team officials have been isolated from the rest of the squad after showing symptoms of Covid-19.Hassan Kajoke and Ernest Kakhobwe have been ruled out of the squad that will face Moyale Barracks in the TNM Super League at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday afternoon,” reads the statement on Nyasa Big Bullets official facebook page.

Both Moyale and Bullets have started the season on a bad note.

Meanwhile, Nyasa Big Bullets Head Coach Kalisto Pasuwa has said his charges must be on top of their game to collect maximum points against struggling Moyale Barracks at Kamuzu Stadium this afternoon.

Bullets are yet to register a win at home this season in two matches after goal-less draw against Blue Eagles and 3-all draw against leaders Red Lions.

This afternoon’s match provides Pasuwa’s troops with a perfect opportunity to get first maximum points at home this season.

Pasuwa, who is aiming for third consecutive title with Bullets, made it clear it was not time to underrate opponents.

“Every team when playing against Bullets they put maximum effort so we must be cautious. Last season, we struggled to beat them but this time we also need to be composed in front of goal,” the Zimbabwean said.

In this encounter, Bullets will be without Ben Manyozo and Peter Banda, Captain John Lanjesi and Chimango Kaira due to injuries.

But Pasuwa has a big squad available for selection this afternoon with the likes of Hassan Kajoke and Chimwemwe Idana hoping to make a mark.

On the part of Moyale, they would be looking for the first win of the season having lost two matches in three opening matches.

Moyale Coach Collins Nkuna believes the players were in right frame of mind ahead of the match.

“This could be a turning point for us. I have seen improvement in the players and I am confident that we will get a positive result,” he said in an interview with Daily Times.

Currently, Bullets are on position eight with five points from four matches whereas Moyale are second from bottom with one point from three matches.

Nkuna has travelled with a strong squad comprising Gastin Simkonda, Lloyd Njaliwa and Boyboy Chima.

In another match today, second placed Ntopwa will host Mafco at Mpira Stadium whereas Lions will face Karonga United at Karonga Ground.

Civil Service United will meet Kamuzu Barracks at Civo Stadium whereas Silver Strikers are away in Mzuzu facing Mzuzu Warriors at Mzuzu Stadium.

Lions top the league standing with 11 points from five matches followed by Ntopwa with nine points from four matches whereas Silver are third with seven points from the same number of matches.

All the games will be watched by supporters following High Court’s ruling restraining the Presidential Committee on Covid-19 from effecting the 100 maximum public gathering restriction.

The High Court in Lilongwe, sitting on Thursday, gave the order after some musicians, namely Skeffa Chimoto, Dan Lufani, William and Ephraim Zonda of Great Angels Choir among others obtained an injunction on the matter.

The injunction calls for an inter-party hearing on December 31.

Sulom Vice General Secretary Zacharia Nyirenda said supporters were free to watch games as the body will abide by the ruling.

“Sulom is a humble and law abiding body so we will respect the court order which gives us freedom to re-unite with our fans,” he said.

The body’s president Tiya Somba Banda also posted similar remarks on social media.

“Kindly note that as a law abiding entity, Sulom will comply with the court order just as we have been complying with other statutory regulations,” Banda posted.

Moyale FC, Silver Strikers fights over Khuda Muyawa

Battle lines have been drawn between Moyale Barracks and Silver Strikers football clubs over attacker Khuda Muyaba’s purported move to the bankers.

On Wednesday, the bankers General Secretary (GS), Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda revealed that the Muyaba has signed a three-year contract with the Reserve Bank of Malawi sponsored side.

But in an interview, GS for Moyale Barracks Football Clubs, Captain Isaac Banda expressed ignorance of Chakaka Nyirenda’s revelations that Muyaba has penned a three-year deal that ties him to the Airtel Top Eight champions till 2021.

“Unless they have the permission from higher Malawi Defence Force (MDF) authorities, that contract is not valid. As Moyale family, we don’t know anything about Muyaba joining Silver Strikers, we are also hearing such rumors from the media, “said Banda in brief.

But the bankers GS still insisted that Muyaba is a Silver Strikers player after penning their contract as a free agent.

He said what was remaining was to sort out some issues with the country’s football governing body, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and Super League of Malawi (SULOM).

“The boy is in Lilongwe City with our team (Silver Strikers), we have remained with some transfer clearances from FAM and SULOM but he has signed the contract which will expire in 2021,” Nyirenda said.

Chakaka Nyirenda further went on to describe Muyaba as a striker who can play in any team on the domestic scene.

Muyaba who has been on a club hunting spree after he vowed never to play for the MDF sponsored side, was over the weekend spotted in Lilongwe with Silver Strikers FC club official watching a fundraising match between the bankers and Nyasa Big Bullets which the former won 2-0.

Khuda Muyaba, who is a soldier, came in the lime light when he single handedly knocked out Nyasa Big Bullets FC in the semifinals of Fisd Challenge Cup with his heroic two goals last season.

He was also Moyale’s most reliable striker in the 2017 TNM Super League Season scoring some important goals which helped him earn a place in the national team.

Kamuzu Barracks become 2017 FISD Challenge Cup Champion

Kamuzu Barracks (KB) on Saturday become second team to lift the K 50.2 million FISD challenge Cup after narrowly beating Moyale Barracks 1-0 played at Civo stadium in Area 9, Lilongwe.

KB striker, Manase Chiyesa was hero of the day, who made the difference for the two teams when he got the only important goal for his team in the first half and buried their last years misery after they lost to Mighty Be Forward Wanderers in the same cup final on post march penalties.

Moyale Barracks goalie, MacDonald Harawa was named man of the match after making superb saves which could have resulted into goals galore as Kamuzu kept pressuring through Kelvin Hanganda and Chiyesa.

On paper, Moyale were the favourites to lift the cup after sending packing the two Blantyre giants, Mighty Be Forward Wanderers and Nyasa Big Bullets.

Moyale display particularly in the first half was fluke and this forced the team technical panel to make two changes in the half but never yielded anything to them.

Kamuzu Barracks central pack of Pempho Kansichiri and Sam Chivunde were on 24 hour guard, tightly marking Moyale’s danger man, Kuda Muyaba out of the game.

Moyale tested Kamuzu Barracks custodian and captain, Lehman Nathalie, barely a minute in to play through Chamveka Gwetsani’s long range effort which was well timed.

Kamuzu Barracks winger, Komani Msiska wasted a chance in the 16th minute when Hanganda had sent an inviting cross into the box in which Harvey Nkacha had set Msiska but his effort went over the bar.

Kamuzu Barracks, midfielder, Diouf Simaone had his 28 metre curved free kick was brilliantly saved by Moyale stopper, Harawa in the 27thminute.

Chiyesa scored the only goal of the cup final in 34thminutewhen he released a powerful grounder inside the penalty which eluded Harawa for the opener.

Sensing danger, Moyale coach Nicholas Mhango pulled Black Aliseni for Victor Mwale and in the 35th minute and 11 minute later he brought in Deus Nkutu for Gift Nyando.

Kamuzu Barracks players were smiling back to the dressing at breaking with the narrow lead.

Moyale made their last substitution in the hour mark when they rested Gwetsani for Lloyd Njaliwa, while Kamuzu Barracks pulled injured Davie Banda for Gift Mbwana.

Moyale Muyaba had a chance in 61st minute but unbelievably he blasted the ball wide as if failed to gain composure and being left free by Kansichiri.

Kamuzu Barracks throw the fresh legs of Sam Chiponda for World Nkuliwa and barley five minute in the game Chiponda had his goal bound shot parried away by Harawa.

Six minute to time Hanganda volleyed the bar over the bar after Chiyesa went past Moyale’s left back, Mtopiso Njewa and Boyiboyi Chima before putting through Hanganda.

Moyale coach Mhango congratulated Kamuzu barracks for the win and said they deserve to winning as they out played his team.

“We did not play our usual game and out players were copying KamuzuBarrack’s long ball which put us on disadvantage,” he admitted Kamuzu Barracks coach, Billy Phambala said most soccer fans gave us not chance to win the cup and am happy my charges have done it in style.

“We have achieved our goal of winning this cup this season. Last year we reached the final but we lost on post-matchpenalties and this time around the game has ended in regulation time,” he added.

KB pocketed K12 million in cash prize while Moyale have received K5 million as runners up.

Moyale Barracks captain retires from football

Moyale Barracks talismanCaptain Lovemore Mitengo, this week announced his retirement from football with immediate effect at the age of 36.

Mitengo made the decision due to recent persistent injuries following an illustrious career spanning 16 years.

The 36-year old joined the Mzuzu based military outfit in 2007 from Cobbe Barracks and captained the team for 7 years until last season, when forward Gastin Simkonda took over.

The tough-as-a-tick centre back was among the four Moyale players who were involved in a road accident before the start of the current season, but recovered in time to feature for the Lions of Kaning’ina in 5 league outings.

However in July, the no-nonsense defender suffered a shoulder injury against Masters Security, which finally forced him to call it a day in his football playing career.

Speaking in an earlier interview with Maravi Post, Mitengo said he does not regret hanging up his boots as he planned on retiring at the end of the season anyway.

“Injury or no injury, I had planned to retire at the end of this season, so leaving the stage earlier does not hurt that much,” he said.

Speaking on his time at Moyale Barracks, Mitengo said: “I had a great time with Moyale. When I arrived the Club was underachieving with its midtable finishes, but under my captaincy, we started challenging for the league title and reached several cup finals; some of which we won, like the Standard Bank knockout and the Carlsberg Cups. I’m proud of what I achieved. That’s why I’m walking away a very happy man.”

On his plans after football, the former Cobbe skipper revealed that he would be interested in attending coaching courses in the future in order to stay connected to the game.

Mitengo began his Football playing career in 2002 with Dwangwa Utd FC, before joining Cobbe a year later.

He then swapped Cobbe with Moyale after 4 years of elite and second-tier football in Zomba.

Airtel Top Eight Trophy semis: Moyale promises fireworks as Wanderers vow to maintain record of winning ?

Moyale players

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)— Bingu National Stadium is expected to turn into a boiling pot of emotions this Saturday as cup specialists Mighty Be Forward Wanderers, takes on Moyale Barracks Football Club in the semi-finals of the Airtel Top Eight Trophy.

As usual the football fraternity in the country, has been gripped with frenzied football fever, with both teams promising to display their best performances to cruise to the finals of the prestigious trophy.
Having failed to win any cup in 2016, after it conceded defeat in the finals of Presidential cup, at the hands of Nyasa Big Bullets, Airtel trophy seems to be Moyale’s best chance of silverware this season. This is because the TNM Super League appears to be out of Moyale’s grasp, going by their records in the league.
However, the Kaning’ina lions, as the team is popularly known, have a daunting task to achieve whatever they are planningthis Saturday, as they are meeting a team which has a clean record of grabbing cup games
Moyale however, also has a good record in cup games. Despite failing to lift the Super League trophy since its inception, the team grabbed some other prestigious trophies in the country.
Moyale were also responsible for Wanderers’ exit in the Presidential cup last year.
Speaking to media this week, assistant coach for Moyale Barracks FC, Charles Kamanga, confidently challenged the Nomads that his charges will halt the former’s history in inaugural cups by playing a do-or-die game.
“Moyale Football Club, will put to an end that record, because we are aiming for victory come Saturday,” he said.
The Lions of Kaning’ina have so far, maintained the record of scoring many goals in the quarter finals, beating fellow soldiers 6-2 on aggregate.
However, Mighty Be Forward Wanderers’ Team Manager, Steve Madeira, said his side was preparing well, and eagerly waits to show the Lions of Kaning’ina why they have the unbeatable record in cup games.
“We are prepared in all fronts, mentally and physically. This is a huge game, and we are not the type of team that belittles any game.
“As much as our previous games with Moyale have never been easy, we are prepared to show them what we are made of,” said Madeira.
He added that Saturday’s game will be an opportunity for the Nomads to revenge previous humiliations they suffered after losing to the soldiers.
He further challenged that while Moyale Barracks FC will be looking forward to demolishing his team’s record of victory, his side will use their every ability to stop the Lions of Kaning’ina from inflicting another loss on the Nomads’ record of losses against the soldiers.
Wanderers beat Azam Tigers 3-1 on aggregate to book a place in the semi finals.
Another semi final is between Kamuzu Barracks and Silver Strikers.

Ramadan unshaken by unconvincing Nyasa Big Bullets Start to the season

Big Bullets players: Good old days

Nyasa Big Bullets Coach Swazilimo Ramadan, has said there is no need to press the panic button just yet, following the team’s worse start to the season in a decade, that saw them come back with just one point from a possible six in the northern region.

The Peoples team was held by rookies Chitipa United last Saturday, before going down 1-0 to Moyale Barracks the next day meaning Bullets had failed to score a goal in their opening fixtures.
