Three people in Ntchisi, are in police custody for allegedly planning to kidnap and sell a child with albinism in the district.
According to Inspector Peter Njilagoma of Ntchisi police, the arrest follows a tip from members of the community.
Njilagoma said that the three were looking for a market to sell a 2-year old boy with albinism, within the district last month.
He identified the suspects as 34-Year old Moses Kazonga, Kalirani Banda (23), and Bizaliele Amos (39).
“After receiving the information, we conducted follow-up investigations. This led to the arrest of the three,” said Njilagoma.
Njilagoma revealed that during their interrogations, the suspects to the allegations.
“The suspects told us that they wanted to sell the boy at K6 million,” he added.
It is likely the three will be charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, which is an offense in the Penal Code.
Moses Kazonga comes from Kazonga village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Malenga, Kalirani Banda, from Chikhutu village, TA Malenga and Bizaliele Amos, from Kaipa village, Traditional Authority Kalumo, all from Ntchisi district.
