Albinos still being hunted in Malawi

Two unknown thugs on Friday, attacked a 38-year old person with albinism, Gift Notisi, security officials have confirmed.

Chikhwawa police spokesperson Andrew Mayawo, told Maravi Post that the incidence occurred around midnight; and according to Mayawo, the victim sustained serious injuries on his left hand.
“They used panga knives after failing to overcome him. However, the victim rescued himself,” said Mawayo.
The victim hails from village headman Dagalasi in the area of Senior Chief Ngabu in Chikhwawa.
This recent attack of a person with albinism, comes a few weeks after two albino boys of the same family were also attacked by thugs at Labu in the area of Traditional Authority Masache in the same district.
It also comes after Inspector-General of Police, Lexten Kachama promised extensive security support to people with albinism when he visited Chikhwawa district recently.
Meanwhile, traditional leaders in the district have criticized law enforcers for failing to deal with the albino killers and abductors.
