LILONGWE Maravipost: The United Democratic Front (UDF) is crying for Malawi, which is suffering economic collapse due to Chakwera’s regime.
Leader of UDF in Parliament,Ned Poya made the remarks on Monday which was themed at “WALKING THE TALK IN THE FACE OF ECONOMIC MELTDOWN”in his response to the state of National address which was delivered by Chakwera on Friday last week with Poya stated that four years after listening to MCP SONA, the country is still experiencing a crisis and ranks 4th among the world’s poorest countries.
Poya stated that their president Atupele Muluzi correctly predicted during the 2019 debates that the Malawi Congress Party (MCP)’s promises were empty, stating: ‘MCP ingolonjeza zambiri koma sakunena kuti ndalama zopangira zinthuzi adzazitenga kuti’.
“It’s very shameful that the country is witnessing a failure of leadership that lacks vision, urgency to deliver, and leadership that has abandoned the people, said Poya.
According to him, the President’s SONA was a clear indication that our nation, Malawi, is in crisis and our people are battling to survive. Their suffering was highlighted by the 29 instances the President mentioned the word ‘pain’ in only the beginning of his speech.
He expressed his regret at the depletion of foreign exchange reserves, which has caused a $2.2 billion deficit and made it nearly impossible to import fuel, medicines, and essential goods. Furthermore, the Kwacha has devalued, trading at more than MWK 4,000 per US dollar on the parallel market.
He mentioned that Malawians are still suffering while government officials continue to enrich themselves at the expense of their lives.
He therefore said that UDF is ready to take on the responsibility of cleaning up the mess left by this administration, just as they did in 1994, as they believe change is coming again and Malawi will rise again.
