LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The United Democratic Front (UDF) has expressed concern over the resignation of a Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) commissioner, Francis Katsaira saying the decision comes at a crucial time with only five months remaining before the country goes to the polls.

Speaking to Maravi Post on Friday, UDF leader in Parliament, Ned Poya, described the resignation as untimely and troubling.

“This is a very critical time for preparations ahead of the elections. What made him resign now is raising a lot of questions,” said Poya.

He emphasized the importance of stability and full leadership at MEC to ensure credible, transparent, and well-organized elections.

The resignation has sparked debate among political leaders and stakeholders, with many calling for clarity on the reasons behind the move and assurance that the commission’s work will not be disrupted.

In a significant political development, Katsaira has officially resigned from his position, citing his intention to contest as a Member of Parliament for Nsanje Central under the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ticket.

Speaking during an interview, Katsaira confirmed that his resignation is driven by his commitment to fully focus on the upcoming electoral race and to align with the DPP’s vision for the constituency.
