BLANTRYE (MaraviPost)—Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for Southern Region Dr George Chaponda has advised members of the party to allow their counterparts from other parties interested to join the governing party.
Chaponda was speaking on the sidelines of the massive resignations of members from other parties particularly from the former governing People’s Party (PP).
He said move to welcome members from other political parties will enrich the ruling party.
Chaponda said the members, who have been loyal and committed to the party over the years should not feel threatened with the new members.
“The doors should remain open because it is only by welcoming people from parties that we are going to increase the membership of the party,” Chaponda said.
“Don’t think that they will take your positions in the party or feel that they are opportunists. That’s what politics is all about,” said Chaponda.
He also appealed to the members to remain united and strengthen the party structures at the grassroots level.
“When we talk of the party, we talk of people from the villages who have remained loyal and committed to the party,” he said.
He also thanked them for voting Professor President Arthur while he was leading the DPP in opposition.
