“I will say something even if it means going to jail, zusiyana pati kunja kuno nkukhala kundende” Hon Lucius Banda.
Waking up early morning on Sunday last week, my toddler reminded to drop her at church for Sunday school. My usual routine on Sunday mornings is picking up a Nation on Sunday newspaper to enjoy the pieces there in.
With the burning issue of 2015/2016 fiscal budget fresh in mind, l rushed to the Muckraker’s column to browse what was his take going to be on the issue which has left dozens of Malawians speechless. I just knew the column was going to be so attractive to many of us news readers.
Raphael Tenthani’s articulations were so coherent whereby if those in authority try to argue were contradicting themselves due to incoherencies in what they say and do
.As l perambulated through the paper l gazed in sorrow after realising the column was nowhere to be found. It was the first Sunday the column was not found and then I read that the columnist was gone, the voice of the voiceless I was told was resting in peace.
L realized that we will hardly find somebody to take his place, one speaking the truth in relative terms. He was such a bold man that Malawi nation requires. A small piece of land with more political parties that precisely means differences in political ideologies that even some comrades in his profession were silenced by the greedy political leaders, Rafu was not one of them.
Raphael stood his grounds with anyone, addressing not for hate’s sake but for the good of our country.
Raphael quoted the Hon Lucius Banda saying “even if it means going to jail l will say something zusiyana pati kunja kuno nkukhala kundende.
You were a non-partisan professional we will always remember you. He was among the first journalists who unveiled the state house saga where instead of a press conference the big Kahuna and his faithful decided to shut the mouths of journalists.
Gosh, your professionalism revealed a mini Cash gate which has cost some state house gurus their jobs. I dare, with the just presented fiscal budget you would enlightened some hidden truths, but aagh only time will tell. Why too soon Raphael? We will dearly miss you.
Continue resting in peace.Sir Raphael
