WOCACA calls for increased awareness on cancer

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)– Women’s Coalition Against Cancer (WOCACA) says World Cancer day commemorations ate very crucial in raising awareness on Cancer as well as encouraging its prevention ,detention and treatment.

 

The Remarks was made by WOCACA’s Executive Director Maud Mwakasungula on Monday 4th February 2019 at the World Cancer Day Commemorations at Area 23 Police Unit ground ,T/A Tsabango in Lilongwe.

 

“World Cancer day takes place on every 4th February  and the commemoration day empowers individuals and communities all over the World to show support ,raise our collective voice,take personal action and press Governments to do more”, Mwakasungula said.

 

She further explained that this day aims at saving millions of lives by achieving gender equality and she  encouraged Men to go for cancer screening since cancer affects everyone though a lot is said about cancer that affects women.

 

National Cancer Coordinator and Deputy Head for non communicable  disease who was also the guest of honour Dr Jonathan Chwanda said that a lot has been done to ensure that Cancer activities are increased in the country..

 

“As Government we have put in place strategic interventions to ensure that there is an increase in awareness on prevention aspect,screening and diagnosis of cancer and coming to get treatment on time in the hospital”, said Chiwanda

 

As part of the commemoration,WOCACA will be running cervical cancer screening programme for the whole week.

 

The Country will celebrate the Cancer day on 8 March 2019 and this year’s World Cancer day is observed under the theme”I am and I will” which marks the launch of the three year campaign which will run from 2019 to 2021
