LUSAKA-(MaraviPost)-The Zambian government has affirmed that the maize export arrangement with Malawi remains intact, emphasizing that both countries continue to engage in a spirit of mutual cooperation and regional solidarity.

Zambia’s Minister of Information and Media and Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa stated this in an official release dated November 11, 2025.

Mweetwa expressed the government’s grave concern over the circulation of a forged letter, purportedly authored and signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mulambo Haimbe.

The government also refuted a fake publication attributed to the Daily Nation newspaper, which alleged that Zambia had terminated the maize export deal with Malawi.

He clarified that the buying and selling of maize does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, but is the responsibility of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The statement further described the letter and accompanying claims as a product of deliberate misinformation and negative propaganda.

“The public is also reminded that Zambia has clear laws governing the abuse of cyberspace, and those found spreading false information will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” the statement read.
