Zomba, June 16: The National Aids Commission has released K6, 611,428.17to enable 25 Community Based Organizations-CBOs in Zomba carry out HIV and AIDS related activities.
Speaking during a symbolic cheque presentation ceremony to CBO representatives recently, District Commissioner Bennet Nkasala called for prudent use of the resources, warning that government would bring to book those misusing the funds.
“I urge you to find other alternates to generate funds of your organization for sustainability in absence of any funding agency,” said Nkasala.
District AIDS Coordinator-DAC Julius Kadewa thanked CBOs for their commitment towards promotion of HIV and AIDS related interventions.
Kadewa noted that CBOs had been sensitizing people on the importance of HTC, Abstinence, faithfulness and sexual debut.
He also urged them to work in collaboration with Social Welfare Office, chiefs and ward councilors.
Youth and Counseling Movement-YOCOM Programme Officer Loveness Chikanda promised to use the funds prudently, but asked the council to frequently monitor and supervise them.
Out of 33 CBOs which were approved to receive funds from NAC, 25 have started accessing the funds.
