22-year-old man in for possession of primary school books

Lilongwe, April 22: Police in Lilongwe are keeping in custody a 22-year-old man for allegedly been found in possession of over 1, 400 primary school books.

Kanengo Police Publicist Esther Mkwanda identified the suspect as Cleofas Chalamanda from Mthiko Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Kadewere of Chiradzulu.

 

She said the suspect has been stealing books at Lilongwe Teachers College (TTC) which were meant for distribution to different primary schools.

“We have been receiving reports from TTC that books meant to be supplied in different schools were being stolen, following the investigations we managed to arrest Chalamanda,” she said.

Mkwanda said the suspect was found with more than 400 books and that they also managed to recover over 1, 000 books at Lilongwe Flea where the books were sold by vendors.

She said following the investigation they also managed to arrest two vendors who were taking orders from the suspect, currently they are also in police custody.

Chalamanda is son of one of the lecturers at the TTC, according to Mkwanda.
