PHALOMBE (MaraviPost)–Irate workers at Phalombe district council on Monday shutdown the office of the District Commissioner (DC) in demand for their three months salary. According to Steven Jailosi one of the workers who spoke to Maravi Post in a telephone interview, the peaceful discussion with the officials yielded nothing.

He said they will resume work till the Council pays them their salary because they are failing to
feed their families.
“Of course we have indeed shutdown the office of the DC and as I am talking no one is working here. This is because the office has not been cooperative to our concern and we shall resume work only if we receive our three month salary,” said Jailosi.
“We shall not allow to be paid part of the money and on top of that, we want to have an official
date of receiving our salary not any date as it is now,” he added.
However, the District Administration Officer Mr. Kandiyado said “the council owes them only one month salry and not three.” He said this happened due to the transfer of the District Commissioner and pledged to sort out the
problem soon.
However, it has been revealed that the Council officials rushed to deposit the two months’ salary
into the workers bank account in order to calm down the situation.
The workers have since maintained that they will not accept anything short of their  three month salary.
