LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-In a concerted effort to combat corruption in the country, the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) have entered into a significant agreement.

The signing ceremony of the memorandum of agreement took place at Mpira Village in the commercial city of Blantyre on Monday, October 2, 2023.

Speaking at the function, FAM President Walter Nyamilandu emphasized that this agreement would play a crucial role in the fight against corruption in the country.

“We entered into this partnership because we recognize our role in combating corruption in the country. We are more than just a sports organization. We felt a duty to assist the ACB in their efforts to reduce corruption,” says Nyamilandu.

“From a national perspective, our expectations are that we will contribute significantly to the fight against corruption. Through football, we will raise awareness, even in rural areas. We also aim to improve the image of football, rebuild trust and confidence, and promote fair play,” adds Nyamilandu.

ACB Director General Martha Chizuma said the bureau chose to partner with FAM because “It’s a prominent brand with a substantial platform”.

She adds, “Football enjoys widespread popularity in the country, making FAM an ideal partner to help raise awareness about corruption through various football competitions, both at regional and national levels.

“We will leverage the influence of football personalities to disseminate messages about the dangers of corruption at all levels. Additionally, we are committed to promptly investigating all corruption complaints brought to our attention”.
