Chakwera opts Mumba as runningmate for his presidential second term bid

1 Min Read

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera has picked engineer Vitumbiko Mumba as his runningmate for September 16 polls.

Chakwera announced Mumba when he presented his presidential nominations papers to Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in the capital Lilongwe.

Chakwera’s choice vindicates The Maravi Post Popular vote that wanted the Malawi leader to pick Mumba as runningmate for Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Presidential candidates for September 16 polls.

This marks the end of MEC’s electoral calendar of receiving nominations papers for presidential, Parliamentary and ward councillors across the country.
